South-East Queensland was at the forefront of an active HEMA movement Australia-wide, with strong relationships also with major international HEMA figures. This enables us to participate in local, interstate and international workshops and competitions. As details of these events are released each year links to many of them can be found here:

SEQ fencers have competed in the Swedish annual event called Swordfish, held since 2006. This was one of the biggest HEMA tournaments in the world and was generally considered to be the “world cup of HEMA”.

2025 international news, March: HEMA fencers from around Australia have already been performing competitively at 2025 international events, with Australians reaching eliminations in
- China (Eric Nesbitt)
- France (Simon Airey) and
- Finland (Alex Roberson),
and medaling in
- the USA (Habibi Favilla bronze, Edward “Woody” Craig, gold).
